How it works
The math, in the open.
The checker reads the same verified data as our state pages. It does not decide whether your event needs a permit; it shows what the state says and links to the full page with sources. States whose data did not pass our quality checks are not listed yet.
| Step | Formula |
|---|---|
| Data | the main event permit row for each state, from the state agency or statute |
| Private, free drinks | shows the agency's own statement when we have one |
| Selling drinks | shows the permit, fee, filing time and eligibility |
Example: Arizona, nonprofit fundraiser: Series 15 Special Event License, $25 per day, file 10 days ahead, nonprofits only.
FAQ
Questions people ask.
Do I need a liquor permit for a private wedding?
It depends on the state. The checker shows what your state's agency says about private, no-charge events where we have it; otherwise ask the agency.
Who issues event liquor permits?
Usually the state alcohol agency, sometimes with city or county sign-off; in a few states only local governments issue them.
