How it works
The math, in the open.
A US half barrel holds 15.5 gallons, or 1,984 ounces: about 165 twelve-ounce pours. Real yield is a little lower because of foam, so round up. Each size is an alternative, not something to add up: pick the one that fits your count and your tap.
| Step | Formula |
|---|---|
| Drinks | guests × % who drink × (hours + 1) |
| Beers | drinks × beer share |
| Half barrel | 15.5 gal ≈ 165 twelve-ounce beers |
| Quarter barrel | 7.75 gal ≈ 82 beers |
| Sixth barrel | 5.17 gal ≈ 55 beers |
| Case | 24 cans |
Example: 100 guests, 4 hours, 75% drinking, 30% of drinks beer: 113 beers, so one half barrel, two quarter barrels, three sixth barrels or five cases.
